| Jan Sternin is Senior Vice President, Commercial/Multifamily, for the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). She is responsible for developing and implementing regulatory policy, best practices and industry standards for the commercial/multifamily sector. She oversees communication with MBA’s commercial/multifamily members and assists them by coordinating education, communication, lobbying and research with other MBA business groups.
Before joining MBA in August 2007, Sternin was Senior Vice President of Midland Loan Services Inc., where her responsibilities included overseeing marketing and sales of Midland's commercial loan servicing, managing assets and providing advisory services to institutional and private investors in the United States and abroad.
With more than 25 years experience in banking, finance, real estate, and loan servicing, Sternin has worked with the Resolution Trust Corporation, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Office of Thrift Supervision, Federal Home Loan Bank and the Federal Savings and Loan Corporation in valuation, restructuring and liquidation of troubled assets and insolvent institutions. She has worked in all areas of financial institution management.
While at Midland, Sternin was a member of MBA's Commercial Real Estate/Multifamily Finance Board of Governors (COMBOG), where she served as vice chair of the Nominating Committee. She also was co-chair of the Commercial Mortgage Securities Association (CMSA) Servicer and Trustee Committee and serves on the CMSA Canadian Board of Governors.
Sternin received her Commercial Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation in 2005. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
